The word 'strategy' has increasingly become the label we lazily smear across thinking we want to sound serious about. That's a problem, because conflating strategy with planning produces a very specific kind of expensive mistake: the mistake of executing brilliantly in the wrong direction.

Two decades across Asia and the Middle East taught me one thing above all others: strategy is only ever as good as the team that executes it.
A plan that doesn't survive contact with execution isn't a strategy. It's a wish. I close the gap between what's decided in the room and what actually reaches the market.
Ambiguity is the enemy of great work. Clear direction, clear feedback, clear expectations: these aren't management ideals, they're the conditions that let creative people do their best work.
The difference between good and exceptional is almost always found in the details others didn't think to check. I've directed hundreds of campaigns and productions across more than a dozen markets. The brief matters. And so does the kerning.
Brand love and business results are not conflicting things. I've spent more than 20 years proving it, building campaigns that move people and move the needle. Creative ambition with commercial discipline. Both of them. Always.

Most of what I know about chasing a standard, I learned in a throwing circle. After a 22-year break, I picked up the shot put again and started training seriously, with making the final 8 in the World Masters' Athletics Championships as the goal. Two national titles and an Asian Masters silver later, those championships in Korea are my next goal.
Away from sport, my attention is taken by rather older disciplines: ancient history, languages, rhetoric and philosophy. They are not a break from the work, they are where the judgement, creativity and even wisdom come from. Learning classical Latin made me a better writer, and knowing the details of Stoic philosophy has made me a happier human.
